The PBI Advantage

A partner of choice for negotiated-cost, multiemployer plans throughout Canada, PBI is frequently called upon to address a range of actuarial, investment and administrative issues.

We are responsible for filing actuarial valuations for multiemployer and negotiated cost pension plans varying in size with assets ranging from $15 million to $3.2 billion, and membership ranging from 100 to 85,000 total members. For most of the clients where we are the actuaries, we are also the investment consultants to the pension plan. In many cases, we have served as the plan actuaries for over 30 years.

We believe that trustees are best served by consultants who have full knowledge, understanding and input into the investment and funding policies of the trust fund as well as the design, measurement and funding of the benefits promised by the trust or plan.

In practical terms, we add value to our partnerships with boards of trustees through:

  • Reliable, accurate and responsive service
  • Leading-edge valuation, modeling and data tools that provide sophisticated analysis where appropriate
  • Innovative thinking when managing the assets and liabilities of the pension and benefits plans
  • Expertise with pension administration, including all benefit calculation requirements

Throughout the administration of these plans, PBI is there – proactively alerting trustees to potential issues and possible solutions while helping trustees meet their mandate of providing the promised benefits to the beneficiaries of the plan.
