Investments Overview

Our expertise in utilizing asset/liability modeling to create optimal investment policies and strategies has been key to the success of many trusts and pension plans to which we consult. We believe trustees are best served by a consultant who has full knowledge, understanding and input into the investment and funding policies of the trust fund, as well as the design, measurement and funding of the benefits promised by the trust or plan.  PBI has unparalleled experience in this important and often overlooked area of trust fund management.

Whether a $3 billion plan or a $15 million plan, we pride ourselves in striving to ensure that the beneficiaries of the pension plans to which we consult receive the benefits promised. In many cases we are able to harness the combined size of our clients to create unique investment opportunities, with investment manager fees much lower than if each plan approached the manager individually. The clients we currently serve have a total combined asset base of approximately $10 billion, which provides us with significant scale.

Through the strategic implementation of LDI (liability-driven investment) strategies, we are able to complement the fixed income securities used to match liability cash flows by adding overlay structures and other investment categories that provide additional yield but do not disrupt the liability-driven strategy. PBI’s knowledge of investment infrastructure, mortgages, foreign bonds, private equity and the use of overlay structures through the use of derivatives has enhanced the yield on theses portfolios and therefore increased the valuation discount rate used by the pension plans we manage.
